Mini-Quiz: Overview of Gravitation and Center of Mass

by Ron Kurtus (revised 2 June 2011)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. What determines the separation ratio of two objects from the center of mass?

It is an arbitrary distance

The masses of the objects

The gravitational constant

2. How do the two objects move with respect to the CM?

They always move in opposite directions

They always move toward the CM

They remain stationary with respect to the CM

3. Why is the tangential velocity component independent of gravitation?

It has no mass

It is in the opposite direction of gravitation

It is perpendicular to the gravitational force

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
