Publishing is the process of printing and and selling books or other written material. It is a business, where you manufacture and sell products for a profit. A recent development is e-publishing, where the written word is electronically published as e-books.
Many writers start their own publishing business instead of going through the traditional route of soliciting larger publishers to consider accepting their work. This route is known as self-publishing or independent publishing. It is a form of Entrepreneurship.
Whether you only publish you own works or publish material from others, you need to learn effective book production and marketing techniques in order to expand or grow your business. You also need to know about how to publish in the various formats: hardcopy, ebook, audio book, etc.
