Mini-Quiz: Tips to Improve Your Listening Ability

by Dr. Stephen D. Boyd, Ph.D., CSP (20 October 2004)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. Why bother repeating the person's name?

It gets you to listen instead of immediately talking

So the person will know who you are talking to

It will distract the person and keep him off guard

2. Why pause before picking up the phone?

To make the person think you are real busy

To see if it is a telemarketer

To prepare yourself to listen

3. What should you do if your attention drifts off in a conversation?

Tell the person to get to the point

Admit you were having problems listening

Just say, "Yes, yes. I know all that stuff."

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Communications. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
