Mini-Quiz: Uses of Nitrogen

by Ron Kurtus (30 November 2007)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. Why would nitrogen prevent food from spoiling?

It eliminates the oxygen that causes much of the spoilage process

Nitrogen absorbs into the food, preventing spoilage but making it taste bad

Nitrogen actually causes the food to spoil, but keeps the color the same

2. What are two uses for nitric acid?

To make ammonia and urea

To make fertilizer and explosives

There are no known used for nitric acid

3. What is a major advantage of liquid nitrogen over dry ice?

It doesn't turn into CO2, which is highly inflammable

It can be stored at room temperature

It is a liquid that can be stored easier than a solid material

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Chemistry. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
