Mini-Quiz: Constellations

by Ron Kurtus (revised 23 November 2004)

Take this Mini-quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. How did ancient ship navigators use the Big Dipper at night?

They used it to find which direction was north

They tried to figure out where the big bear was

They only used it during the daytime

2. Why would Orion carry a sword instead of a gun?

The people who named Orion wanted to be peaceful

They didn't have guns in the era that Orion was named

Guns are not allowed in outer space

3. What time at night can someone in New York see the Southern Cross?

After midnight, if it is a clear night

Just before dawn in the southern sky

You must be further south to see the Southern Cross

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Astronomy. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
